5. did you read the (chapter in the) book?

I remember the days when XLST 2 was brand new. In most cases my fastest procedure to solve a particular problem with XLST was looking it up in the hardcopy book by Michael Kay. Way before that, it was the Design Patterns book.

I don't have more recent examples. Curious whether other fast folks are using expert books as their first stop in day-to-day development?

4. did you read the manual?

In popular products, this would be the first to pop up in Google search (2.)

For more exotic products it is faster to dive into the manual directly.

Frequently compare timings between all options to create a product-specific ranking in your mind (e.g. manual first, then google, then fiddle around...)
