I remember the days when XLST 2 was brand new. In most cases my fastest procedure to solve a particular problem with XLST was looking it up in the hardcopy book by Michael Kay. Way before that, it was the Design Patterns book.
I don't have more recent examples. Curious whether other fast folks are using expert books as their first stop in day-to-day development?
